Hey,
Women’s safety and empowerment in India often feel like empty rhetoric.
For two months, our reporter Tapasya dug deep to find answers. From the urban sprawl of Delhi to the rural corners of Haryana’s Nuh, Tapasya examined the systems created as ‘first steps’ to tackle the everyday violence women face in this country.
After combing through pages of undisclosed official documents and verifying them on the ground, Tapasya found that these schemes and promises only reinforce the argument: that the rhetoric around women’s safety remains hollow.
In this new investigative series, Tapasya does a reality check of these safety schemes. In Part 1, she focuses on the One Stop Centres (OSCs) — a key initiative launched after the Nirbhaya case to protect and support women in distress.
Through exclusive documents, including a NITI Aayog study, we expose how these centres are falling short of their promise.
From underfunding to broken support systems, the government’s mishandling is leaving women vulnerable.
Stay tuned for more!
It’s not easy for a small team like ours to pull off these in-depth investigations. Bigger organisations often avoid it because it doesn’t always sit well with those in power. But we do it because that’s our promise to you. If you can, please consider donating and share our work with your friends and family. Your support is what keeps us going!
