Hello,
Yesterday, The Collective’s investigative series that looks at thousands of assurances made by ministers of the Narendra Modi government in Parliament and their outcomes got off the block.
First of the lot was a story that showed evidence of the government's parliamentary tactic – assure probe and backpedal later -- when questions arise on Adani Group’s alleged scams.
Today, we tell you the story of Home Minister who assured Parliament to help states in addressing police suicides, but quietly flipped.
The investigation by Shreegireesh Jalihal, a reporter from The Collective, along with two researchers Saras Jaiswal and Swapnil Ghose found that the Home Ministry quietly backed away from the key promise made by then Home Minister Rajnath Singh to prevent suicides among police personnel, a sensitive issue linked to national security.
The story details how the ministry tried to wash its hands of the assurance, bamboozle the parliament watchdog that keeps track of the assurances and tried to pin the blame on states.
The Collective is investigating these promises made in Parliament and what happened to those promises because we promised our readers to hold the powerful accountable.
